67 year old Caucasian male. He first came into our office with a chronic non-healing wound. His wound was caused by a sharp knife that accidently fell into his leg. This caused a deep wound that had not healed for the past 27 years.
The wound had periods of improvement with relaxation and good night sleep; however, with periods of stress the wound will open up once again. There was no pus discharged from the wound, nor an uncomfortable smell.
After 27 years, our patient has tried different Western methods for this chronic wound, but none of them had been successful. Culture of the initial pus discharge was done but no microbial cultures were found, even cancer biopsies were performed, but none of them targeted the real cause of this non-healing wound. Western medical ointments will give him temporarily relief, but the wound would reappear.
Alongside the wound, our patient had been dealing with hypothyroidism for the past 12 years by taking 100mg of Thyroxine daily. Without any relief, this patient was referred to Eastern Balance to be treated by Dr. Bai Song Zhong.
With some distrust of what he going to find, our patient embarked into our treatment. The day he walked into our office, the sore looked reddish, swollen, it had pus, but no pain and no smell. The condition has worsened because of the recent stress he had been going through.
Dr. Bai Song Zhong’s assessment, Yin Sore due to Liver Qi stagnation and blood stasis. The local sore has created a tissue not being nourished, which with time turned into pus.
All these was caused by and underlying Qi and blood deficiency that had failed to generate fresh tissues.
His tongue was pale and swollen, and his pulse was slippery and wiry.
The treatment method utilized was, soothe liver Qi, expel pus, tonify the Qi and blood and generate fresh tissues.
The acupuncture points used for this type of sore were: 4 gates, PC-6, Si Shen Chong, Ren-12, St-36, St-40, Sp-10, Sp-6 and dragon needles.
He also received an herbal formula: Pu Ji Xiao Du Yin and Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang modified.
Thanks to his visit to our clinic, in only 2 weeks, coming for an acupuncture treatment along with herbs, twice a week , Dr. Zhong’s treatment was able to heal this chronic sore that has been accompanying him for 27 years. Our patient felt extremely satisfied with the caring treatment he received and became another of our several successful cases.
